Forgotten Makeup // Love Your Collection

How is this my first post of the year?! I said it before and I’ll say it again…the events of last year did a number on me. I am so sorry for being away for so long. Know that I recorded and discarded more than one video because grief is a funny thing. Anyways! I shot this probably a month ago but I really like it, even though the cheeks are aggressive.

I was inspired to do this mostly because of all the beautiful Makeup Geek I’ve forgotten about as all these new collections and items have come out that I’ve picked up, even though my MUG is so beautiful. It’s my ol’ reliable stuff! So fall back in love with your collection and enjoy me slapping this ish on my face.

A Holiday Makeup Roundup!

Merry merry everyone! Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, who doesn’t want to wear sparkles and red lips? I have gathered a few of my favorite holiday looks from the last couple years.

Kacey Musgraves rocked a sparkly lip & blew my mind. I break it down here!

If you want a laugh while also seeing how I do a more classic holiday glam, check out this video where my boyfriend does my voice over.

If you want something a little more vampy, peep this one, featuring Kathleen Lights’ Havana nights liquid lippie!

If you want to keep it super simple on the eyes with a little pop of something sparkly, head over to this oldie but goodie.

I hope you all have a happy holiday with the ones you love. Make sure to hug them all extra tight! You never know what could happen in life. Treasure them, tell them you love them and never take them for granted.

xx Amber

The Ordinary Foundation First Impression & Salem Vlog

Welcome to a weird two-in-one video! I wanted to test out the new Ordinary foundation on a day when we were adventuring to Salem so I made this combo vlog slash first impression video. Spoiler alert: Salem was INSANELY busy during October but it was a good thing to check off our collective bucket lists. The main reason we went was to see the It’s Alive! exhibit at the Peabody Essex museum, which is a small collection of items from Kirk Hammett’s much larger collection of horror/sci-fi pieces. The journey was long, parking was treacherous and it was packed but it was certainly an experience. As for the foundation? You’ll have to watch and find out!

I’m Back! Subculture Palette First Impression/Demo

As you all may or may not know, I have been off the YouTube grid for a few months now. If you want all the details, please read my previous blog post, but basically I lost my mom. Just getting up and functioning is difficult enough, never mind expending energy on things that I should love. It has been very difficult, to say the least, to move forward. I don’t want to give up on this blog or my channel, and I knew it was time to try to at least do something I love in an effort to push off some of the intense emotions I feel almost all the time. Hopefully you don’t know how this feels, but if you do, any words of encouragement are welcome and appreciated.

ANYWAYS – why you’re here. The Subculture palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills has taken the beauty community by storm and not in a good way. A brand that usually puts out consistent, quality products is under fire for this palette and I totally get why.

I had similar negative experiences to those I saw online – blending is difficult, colors oxidize and the fall out is cray. But at the end of the day, it’s just makeup. I think I may hang onto my palette for a little bit longer to see if I can make it work but if not, I’ll return it. Because ABH has a great return policy and it’s just makeup.

If you want to see how I created the look, which I actually love a LOT, as well as see how it all blended, peep the vid!

Why I Haven’t Been on YouTube

What started as a general lack of inspiration took a turn when on Saturday, April 29th, my mother suddenly passed away. My world has been turned upside down, my heart shattered, and I feel generally like I am living in a fog. I lived my actual nightmare, and haven’t quite found my footing yet. Especially in this context.

A little bit about my mom as she related to this whole blog/channel/YouTube thing…

I know how proud my mom was of my not-that-great but passionate collection of videos on YouTube. She would tell everyone, every time we went somewhere that her daughter was Amber Rae Beauty, and tell me how proud she was of me for it. Mom was constantly admiring whatever I had thrown on my face that day and started trying to do different techniques when we got together. She called me her Makeup geek, because she knew how much Marlena of MUG inspired me to care about makeup and ultimately share my love of beauty online.

While she was certainly flawed and complicated and never easy, the hole that has been left in my heart is irreparable. My mother was warm, bright, funny, an incredible listener, a woman who always had my back. The shock has been replaced by pure sadness, missing her, wishing I could hear her voice.

So, needless to say, it has been difficult to think about doing this. I also do not have time, as we have been very busy getting things in order after she left us without warning. Thank you for sticking around, if you have, and please know that my love for makeup has not faded. I just don’t have it in me right now and I thought it would be getting easier, but it hasn’t.

I am bouncing between abandoning all this and doing it harder than I ever have, I just need time to sort it out.
