Chatty Makeup Application Featuring Flawless Foundation Routine

This base makeup has been my go to as of late and has been working like a dream! From the primer to the setting spray, it lasts a super long time and looks great even when I am ready to wash it off. Could be the Champagne Pop, who knows. I decided to do a chatty Get Ready With Me and boy oh boy, can I talk. I knew I had the gift of gab already but damn, I had to edit this video down and I still came out with about 20 minutes of footage! Grab a drink and settle in!

Kendall Jenner Poppy Lip

Shout out to Kendall Jenner + the makeup Godesses over at Estee Lauder for creating a truly beautiful matte Poppy lipstick shade! Generally I stay away from mattes as they can be fairly drying but this is just so beautiful I couldn’t help myself when I saw it was for sale. I went a little wild recently with makeup purchases recently (evidenced partially by my Polar Purchases post) and felt the need to showcase them in a video!

Products, pictures + music info listed down below, as always! Hope you enjoy this one ūüôā

Get Ready With Me // Neutral with a Pop of Teal

I sat down over the weekend with a very vague idea in mind, knowing only that I wanted to use a couple new gorgeous Makeup Geek eye shadows that I hadn’t used yet. I came up with this very wearable, mostly neutral look that features a pop of shimmery, teal/turquoise goodness on the lower lash line. You could leave the bottom lash line out of the equation for an easy every day look but I really loved the way the shades Mermaid + Shark Bait worked together to create a really unusual, beautiful pop of color.

Monkey See, Monkey Do // Hair Edition

Just like all of you, I am a total blog, DIY junkie. I love pulling inspiration from other humans on the internet whose creativity and ingenuity far surpasses mine. The Beauty Department, a website co-founded by Lauren Conrad + her hair + makeup peeps, has been one of my favorites since it’s inception a couple years ago. I love Lauren Conrad and admire how she has been able to build an empire with grace + class post MTV Reality show fame. Most of the hair tutorials until recently have been mainly geared toward ladies with long, thick hair so I have simply admired them from afar. Thank GOODNESS LC chopped her locks and started somewhat of a revolution (#cleartheshoulders anyone?). They featured this hair tutorial recently so I decided to give it a shot! My hair is what I believe is called a graduated bob, meaning it’s shorter in the back and longer in the front. The length is just about shoulder length so I was able to easily follow the steps. My version initially came out a bit more wavy and less undone, but over time it loosened + settled nicely. In my experience, the style can last a few days (thanks Dry Shampoo!).

I didn’t have all the products she used or the exact ones, but I was still able to achieve the style. Use whatever you have in your cabinet! I used a Dove mousse, Not Your Mother’s Hairspray and Not Your Mother’s serum. I bet pomade would really blow this style out of the water, so it’s on my wish list for a future shopping adventure. Happy hair styling!

(PS. This makeup tutorial will be up in the next few days, stay tuned!)

Date Night Makeup

For this look, I practiced what I preach…I was bold + went outside my comfort zone! I was watching a Jaclyn Hill tutorial recently + she was wearing lashes by a brand called Lashes by Lena. They. Were. STUNNING! On JH’s big, beautiful eyes they looked so soft and lush. And there was a coupon code. Queue¬† me racing to the website to buy my very own pair of Bianca style lashes. In the box, they don’t look like anything insane. But on my tiny eyes, oh honey! They are a commitment. I was shocked when I applied them. I was tempted to take them off but then I thought, screw it, let’s just finish off the look + see how I feel. And let me tell you, I ended up loving them. I wore them for the rest of my day, including a stare-filled trip to the grocery store (they don’t bite, people!). Once I trimmed them to fit my eye size, they were great. But every time I looked down, I could definitely notice them on my eyes + I could feel them. Maybe it’s just my inexperience with lashes, who knows, but I will definitely be pulling them out for special occasions in the future.

In addition to a big, fluttery lash I went for glowy skin, cause who doesn’t want that?! Using light infusing primers, a damp sponge + cream products help to accomplish a lovely, healthy dewiness. For the lips I chose an insanely long wearing liquid lipstick by Stila in the shade Beso. You can easily adapt the look + use whatever colors your heart desires!

Monday Thoughts

Writing a beauty blog + maintaining a YouTube channel could be viewed as the ultimate form of narcism, as it requires me to plaster my face all made up¬†on various bits of the¬†internet. Believe me, I don’t always look that way, and beauty isn’t the only thing in life I care about. I work a full-time job as an advocate, I am passionate about womens’ issues, I sometimes sing and perform, I’m a fairly avid reader. But my greatest passion is beauty…I am a total product junkie when it comes to makeup, bath and body,¬†hair + nails. Through this passion I have discovered a whole community of people who share this adoration, people who I can connect with + learn tips from, read reviews + help me add to my ever growing wish list.

One night a few years ago¬†I couldn’t sleep so I went on YouTube and searched, “Makeup for small eyes”. I clicked on a video by a user called Makeup Geek & was captivated by the transformation made with makeup by this bubbly, intelligent woman. I never thought to look to other people on YouTube¬†for this kind of advice. The most I had ever used YouTube for was figuring out how to fold the dreaded fitted sheet.¬†Further searches¬†provided tutorials for everything imaginable…the perfect red lip, a smokey eye, looks appropriate for all seasons and occasions. I was hooked. I had always liked picking up new cosmetics, hair products and nail polish but through this new medium my knowledge expanded, as did my collection of products.

My boyfriend watched this transformation in me and eventually asked me why I wasn’t making videos to post on YouTube, why didn’t I have my own blog? Over time he gifted me all the necessary components to creating my own content. A camera, lighting, backdrops, software. One day I stopped saying, yeah maybe, and actually committed to a blog + channel of my own. I usually keep my passions close; I was afraid to sing in front of people for fear that they would tell me I wasn’t as talented as I thought. The same went for my makeup application skills…what if people didn’t think I was good enough or worth watching?

It finally clicked for me that no matter what, I have my blog and my channel because I have a passion, I do it because it is genuinely fun to create original content about this topic I love so much. To me, makeup is a form of creative expression. Creativity is a powerful thing, one that can relieve stress, take your mind off the worries you harbor.

‚ÄúCreativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.‚ÄĚ ‚ÄĒ Mary Lou Cook

I will never be the most talented, I won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s ok. I have had the opportunity to connect with some insanely¬†kind human beings through this medium, people who share this passion and are excited about the same things I am. It’s nice to feel connected, to encourage and to inspire. That’s all I really want to do here. I want to inspire people to go outside their comfort zone + try something new with beauty. While physical beauty certainly shouldn’t be valued above all else,¬†exuding confidence because you feel beautiful isn’t such a bad thing.

I hope this has given you a little insight into why I started my blog + why I continue to post. I am always striving to make improvements, make it more appealing, more interesting. My goals here are to hone my craft, be open to new ideas,¬†to have a little community here that is supportive + kind, building each other up instead of spreading negativity. If you’re along for the ride, I’m psyched to have you here! Thank you for reading, sharing, commenting, engaging. Let’s have some fun!

Monkey See, Monkey Do

It’s safe to assume that if you follow my blog, you’re a beauty blogger/YouTuber addict just like me. I spend an exorbitant amount of my life watching other people apply makeup, chat about products they love + live their lives (who else is devastated that Vlogmas is over?!). One of my all time favorites is Jaclyn Hill, a makeup artist known for her love of a cat eye, smoking out that lower lash line + having a bold personality. I love her. I think she is insanely talented, so down to earth, honest + hilarious. That being said, when she posted her NYE look I knew I had to give it a shot, even though it intimidated me!

One of the coolest parts of makeup is seeing how a look progresses, how it can go from looking like a sloppy mess to a work of art with a blending brush + some patience. I wanted to share my recreation of Jaclyn’s look with you guys! I didn’t film it, but I can if you’d like! I wore this on NYE + absolutely loved it. I’ve never done a double liner before but honestly, it was so easy!

Who are your favorite YouTubers? I am always looking for more talented people to inspire me!

Alos, if you aren’t following me on other forms of social media, DO IT!
