BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette Review & Demo

I got my paws on the latest Becca collab with Jaclyn Hill….GUYS! It’s beautiful. But I definitely need a tan to be able to rock these shades more confidently. I think a fun drinking game for this video (water, coffee, whatever, you do you) would be to take a sip every time I say the word tan. Honestly, it gets a little out of hand. Regardless, the shades are gorgeous and are INSANELY pigmented. Almost too pigmented. Use the lightest hand ever when applying each of the shades to the face because this shiz means business.

As I am typing this post it has been about 5 hours since application and my cheeks are still going strong. Somehow there has been little to no fading and I am glowing like a firefly. My boyfriend told me I looked like Nikki Tutorials today with the intense cheek and I was so happy I almost passed out. What a dude.

Chit Chatty GRWM + Life Updates

Hi you guys! I’m back! If you didn’t know, I took a little break because I just wasn’t feeling it. And I didn’t want to film or do anything relative to YT, but I think that breaks are good! I was also sick, and I traveled to see my sister to be her date to the Marine Ball so the past couple weeks have been busy. Anyways, I posted on my Facebook just letting people know I was feeling uninspired, and the outpouring of love I got blew my mind. The support was unreal, and there was no way I could walk away from something I not only enjoy, but it turns out that it brings joy to others, too! 🙂

Here’s a little Get Ready With Me that I filmed the other day. I had just received my November Ipsy bag, so I used a bunch of those items in this look! Not going to lie, I couldn’t help myself and talked basically the entire time so it’s a long one. Love you guys!

Secret Garden Copycat

When I saw this video by Jaclyn Hill, I low key lost my mind. Not only were the new matte shades by Makeup Geek gorgeous, but I owned the very shimmery green and purple shadows she was using on her lid (insert happy dance!). It took me juuuuust about 12 hours to re-create the look and I am SO GLAD I did! I obviously don’t have the MUG mattes yet (they don’t come out until later this week), so I used what I had already, mixing and applying, praying the results would yield something similar to my girl JH. The green is a duochrome called Secret Garden and to be honest, I had no clue how I was going to make this shadow work but Jaclyn showed me the way with sandy browns, purples and even some poppy pink.

My version is below…I tweeted it (@AmberRae) and was stunned when Marlena herself RT’d it! I have been freaking out on the inside pretty much all day about it. I didn’t edit these at all, sometimes I will play with light to show true pigmentation but I didn’t need to for these. I hope you guys enjoy, and if you’d like a tutorial on this look let me know and I would be more than happy to film it for you! xoxo

Chatty Makeup Application Featuring Flawless Foundation Routine

This base makeup has been my go to as of late and has been working like a dream! From the primer to the setting spray, it lasts a super long time and looks great even when I am ready to wash it off. Could be the Champagne Pop, who knows. I decided to do a chatty Get Ready With Me and boy oh boy, can I talk. I knew I had the gift of gab already but damn, I had to edit this video down and I still came out with about 20 minutes of footage! Grab a drink and settle in!

Polar Purchases

Recently, Mr. ARB and I have been house saving. With that comes a strong urge to buy basically everything. While I have been practicing some super serious restraint (and using up tons of products I already have), a gal also has to get her Treat Yo Self on, know what I mean?

AFFORDABLE: The gorgeous KathleenLights created some absolutely stunning eye shadows with the every popular and insanely amazing Colour Pop. After this talented beauty hit 1 Million subscribers I decided that enough was enough and it was time to get my paws on these shadows and I am so glad I did! Two mattes, a pearlized and a shimmer offer everything I could ever want in an eyeshadow quad. The eye shadows themselves are extremely creamy to the touch but apply like a powder. Granted, I haven’t slapped these on my eyeballs yet but I have swatched them and oh hot damn.

In addition to the shadows I picked up a couple of more natural lippies, as I currently only have very bright ones (red, hot pink + a very deep plum). I grabbed Rocket, which is a beautiful pinky coral, and Button which is a pinky nude. I absolutely love both of these Satin finish lippies and will definitely be wearing them all the time! They’re a nice addition to the family because I don’t really have anything like them.

LUXURY: Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar and Glow Palette also sucked me in. BEAR WITH ME! I know, I know…this is the beauty bloggers dream but it is for a very good reason. This duo is insanely luxurious, highly pigmented and comes in some of the most stunning packaging I have ever seen. Rose gold, solid, huge mirror and lots of product made the purchase a little less painful. So did a Beautylish coupon and free shipping. Y’all know me! I can definitely do a tutorial with these in the very near future. For now, I hope you enjoy these photos!

Rambling Update

Ready for some stream of consciousness ramblings? Ok, let’s get into it people.

Lately I have not been feeling inspired to create content. I have no idea why. I think in life we all go through funks and I might be in one right now, creatively speaking. I’m sorry I haven’t been particularly present here, and I hope that inspiration finds it’s way back to me very soon. I love creating content + sharing makeup ideas, however, I feel like I need to present myself as less of an instructor and more of just a sharer. Is that a word? You know what I mean. I’m not qualified to teach anyone about this stuff, I’m just a girl who is very excited about beauty + wants to chat with others and share that excitement! I want it to feel like I am just sitting down with a friend, putting my makeup on for the day/night/whatever.

I hope this all makes sense. I have been questioning whether or not I even want to continue this because I feel so badly about not having posted over the last couple of weeks. It gets tough with a full -time job, an insane commute, spending time with human beings + alone time. Not to make excuses, but that’s the reality I’m workin’ with here. I may not stick to the themes I previously said I would, and I cannot guarantee a particular number of uploads a week. I think I let this feel like more of an obligation and less of the fun hobby that it started off as. I just have to remain true to myself and the reasons I made the leap into Beauty Blogging + YouTubing.

Leave a comment letting me know how you find inspiration in funks like the one I’m in! I’d love to hear from you guys and have a conversation in the comments.

Thanks for listening 🙂 xoxo

My Top Skincare Tips + Recent Product Favs!

1. Drink Water! I know, I know, you’ve heard it before but I am saying it again. Not only is water crucial to keep your body functioning, you can also see it in your skin when you haven’t been drinking enough. Not tea, not juice, not sports drinks, just good old water. This may sound completely superficial but get a water container that you think is cute + functional + you’ll probably be more likely to carry it with you + refill throughout the day. I find that I like larger containers + I like straws. I’ll do me, you do you, just remember to sip all day!

2. Use a New Cloth Every Night When Removing Your Makeup + Cleansing; ALWAYS Remove Makeup Before Bed. You DO NOT want to use a dirty cloth that has germs, bacteria, sweat + makeup on it to clean your face…what sense does that make?! I bought a pack of simple, white face cloths from Target for around $5 and they last me throughout the week. A great, easy + inexpensive tip. I crammed two tips into one line here, the second of which being, always always ALWAYS remove makeup before bed! You don’t want to sleep with stuff clogging up your pores + possibly creating spots, cysts, and other gross things. If you just can’t commit to the full on evening routine, at least give your face a swipe with a makeup remover wipe. Not the most effective method but it’s better than nothing!

3. Wash Your Makeup Brushes. Admittedly, I preach this constantly with the people in my life on a regular basis. I’ve even been known to go back to a friend’s apartment after a long night of imbibing + washing all her brushes. It’s something I am insanely passionate about + make sure to do every Sunday evening. It’s a ritual that I genuinely enjoy…not only the process of washing them + laying them out to dry but also knowing that I am getting rid of all the gunk that has been building up + I’ve been swirling on my face. I have a video here if you’d like a tutorial on it!

4. Drink Less Alcohol + Stay Away From Greasy Foods. This one is the killer for me. I love drinking + I love Wendy’s after a night of drinking. It’s not good for my body or my skin so I try to limit these activities. This may make me sound like a total lush but I like to drink wine with dinner + enjoy a beer after a long day, which usually adds up to many weeknights of consuming alcohol. It’s easy to slip into the habit (especially after the winter we had this year in New England) but it’s just as easy to pass it up + go for lemon water + save it for Friday night.

5. Moisturize. This is another tip that I am constantly sharing with people. It’s crucial to use an SPF every single day no matter how many clouds are in the sky – those rays still come through! Protecting your skin from sun damage is a total no brainer. After cleansing it is also important to put moisture back into your skin. This goes for all skin types. You have oily skin? You still need to moisturize. Your skin will produce extra oils to make up for what it loses during cleansing + I know that no one wants that!

Why I Don’t Have New Content This Week…

Major blogger fail this week, people. Sometimes life just doesn’t allow things to happen. I had every intention of vlogging the weekend, filming my Birthday makeup  as well as an additional video for Wednesday. But it just didn’t happen. I have random bits from the weekend where I basically just apologize for not pulling my camera out that often and that’s just not good content. I started filming my Birthday makeup but I was running late + my friends arrived + I couldn’t continue filming with them there. I know, I know. I really screwed it up.

On the bright side, though, my friend + I were thrown a surprise party by our insanely sweet + sneaky significant others + friends. We thought we were stopping by a friend’s place for drinks and apps; little did we know we would be walking into a room filled with people we love! I will end this blog post with some photos from the party, hoping they in part make up for my epic blogger fail. Oh, and because this is a beauty blog, after all, you should know that I wore Makeup Geeks’ pigment in Birthday Wish on my lids the night of the party 🙂

Perception v Reality

Confidence is something that every single one of us struggles with, particularly in this world of social media, Photoshop, filters. We are oversaturated with photos of others that have been so insanely doctored, altered in some way, as they strive for whatever version of perfection they envision. Inevitably, we end up comparing ourselves to these unobtainable versions of other people and that can negatively impact our own self confidence. I’m sure even Beyonce has days when she doesn’t feel her best (which seems insane because she’s BEYONCE). But she has written the best confidence pump up jam I know. Pump up jam? Just roll with it.

Well, I think it’s time we step back from it all + realize that the most powerful aspect of social media is that we are in charge of what we put out there for the world to see, and who wants to share the not so pretty aspects of themselves? Not many, I’ll tell you that right now. We have the option of altering how we appear in order to feel like a better version of ourselves, one that isn’t real or true to who we are, and sharing it.

It’s time we embrace our flaws, share our true selves with others. Of course this means we are vulnerable; whenever you share something private, intimate or personal, it opens you up to criticism, judgment by others. But, those who the most vocal are usually the ones who feel the need to bring down others to feel better about themselves. It’s cliche, it’s corny but it’s true.

You can think someone has it all because of what they put out there + then have a conversation and find out that that’s not the case at all. Perception versus reality, people. Like I said before, we have the power to share what we want as the authors of our own social media, and we can choose how we would like to be perceived. Don’t forget that we are all people just trying to make it in this world. None of us are perfect, and you never know what someone may be going through behind closed doors.

I don’t consider myself to be a particuarly articulate person, so I hope this made sense and I hope you took something from it. I started thinking about this a lot after seeing a video by one of my favorites YouTubers, Kassie from Cloudy Apples. She has a way of reminding me to stay grounded, keep it real and remember that we are all on this journey together.
