Burgundy Smokey Eye

Ok ok, I know. I have been doing a ton of smokey eye tutorials recently. But honestly, doesn’t this time of year just call for this kind of eye look?! While it’s chilly + dark I like to pile on all the eyeshadow + liner. This look is all about matte brown-red + burgundy shades + a long lasting plum lip. Something a little different for the holiday party circuit but really beautiful and really easy. The lipstick I used, CoverGirl’s Euphoria, is insanely long wearing + leaves a lovely stain on the lips when it does wear off. I’m a huge fan, and not just because my girl Katy Perry wore it in one of her CG ads. I tried to make the skin glowy, using MAC’s Face and Body which has a nice natural sheen to it. I packed the highlighter on, using both a cream and powder + went over my cream blush with a highlighter blush.

Perfect Holiday Green Smokey Eye

I’m on a real green kick these days. I think it might be the impending Christmas Holiday or simply that I am just really drawn to it at the moment. Green is usually not my go to color but I have been absolutely loving the way it looks on my brown eyes! This look is perfect for a Holiday party or evening out + is very, very simple. If you’re not into green you can use any color you’d like! The technique can be applied to any color – you just need a dark base, a transition shade + your lid color. The key is to apply + blend, apply + blend – you can never blend too much! It is crucial for creating a smokey look that doesn’t come off as a black eye.

Quick + Easy Every Day Makeup

I filmed this look today, that being Sunday, as I was running out to do a few errands & wanted to look a little bit more presentable for the outside world. That being said, there are 2 things I’d like to mention. 1)There are MANY days that I go out + feel totally fine without makeup on, I have no problem being a makeup free lady but today I felt like I wanted just a little to even out my skin tone + brighten up my face. 2) You can do this any day, not just Sunday 🙂

This look is insanely easy + quick and anyone can do it. Tinted moisturizer provides some coverage while concealer takes care of those tough spots. Cream highlighter + blush add a soft glow, a little liner + mascara frame the eyes and a simple lip color pulls it all together!

October Favorites

I would have loved to have created a proper YouTube video to chat about my favorites from last month, however, life is happening + is not allowing me the time to sit down, film + edit. So, I have decided to type up a little blog post with photos + text this month. I hope you’ll forgive me! My schedule during the week makes it near impossible to film when I get home + the last couple weekends were filled with family. Anyways, please read on if you’d like to know what I was reaching for most during October!

Lavender Vanilla Aromatherapy Range from Bath + Body Works

I think it’s pretty clear that I have a deep affection for this range of Aromatherapy products from Bath + Body works. When I shower at night I like to use the shower oil, when I take bubble baths I like to use the Luxury Bubble bath, before bed I slather the cream all over my limbs + I spritz my pillow with the pillow mist. The scent is incredible, soothing and relaxing and it is an absolute staple in my nightly routine!

Chloe Perfume

I have been really digging this fragrance, a teensy tiny bottle of Chloe that I got with my points at Sephora. The scent is light + lovely. I am horrible at describing scents so I will let Sephora do the honors: “Warm, seductive, and totally addictive, a classic rose is translated into a breath of modern femininity”. I’d say that’s accurate! The full size bottle will be on my Christmas Wish list, for sure.

Be a Bombshell Cosmetics – Smooth Criminal Powder

This powder was gifted to me from my sister who received it in her Ipsy bag. It’s a silky smooth translucent loose setting powder. It is a powder for people who don’t like looking like they have powder on, so I love it. I use my giant E.L.F. brush to press this onto my face after applying all my creams.

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation – 200 Sand Beige

This foundation is not for the faint of heart – it has a thick consistency + is definitely full coverage. I can flip the open container over completely and not worry in the slightest that it will run. That being said, it makes my skin look amazing! It makes my skin appear smooth, even + does not look like I am wearing foundation. Perfect for dry skin, not sure if oily skinned gals would like this. The staying power is impressive as this foundation lasts all day and looks good after hours of wear. The best part is that it is drugstore + doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!

I could go on for days about my love for this book. Refreshingly honest, bold, hilarious, inspiring. I laughed out loud at least a dozen times. Lena Dunham is intelligent, articulate + witty. An absolute must read for young women.

Hope you all enjoyed, leave a comment + let me know what you’ve been loving lately!

Upside Down Blue Smokey Eye

Well that’s a mouthful! This look focuses on a bright blue eyeliner on the lower lashline + features soft definition and cat eye on the upper lid. It’s an unusual but interesting way to wear color on your eyes + a method I like to employ often. You don’t have to have the same products as I do – I am showing you a technique that can be achieved with any colors + products you have! Have fun, be bold. Enjoy!

Sittin’ Pretty On the Throne with Lorde

Lorde was a music recommendation from a coworker last summer & I was immediately hooked. At the time she only had a couple EPs out & I listened to them on repeat constantly. She was my little secret & then Royals hit the radio. Lorde is insanely talented. She has her own unique sound & even more exciting, her own unique look which I really wish I could have pulled off at 17. Hell, she IS who I wanted to be when I was that age. She’s so effortlessly cool & mysterious & I just love her. Click the link below to see the photo that inspired me.

Her makeup looks run along the lines of winged liner, contour, dark lip. Her Grammy look was no exception & I just had to give it a shot! Below is the photo I used as inspiration as well as my step-by-step tutorial & product list. I had so much fun recreating this look & have a feeling this won’t be the last time I wear this lip combination.

The Most Dangerous Game – Target Edition

After work today I went to Target. When my boyfriend got home from work, we went back to Target. Guess what I did each time? That’s right, lost any bit of willpower I had & made some purchases. Of course I took my time perusing the aisles while boyfriend did secret anniversary shopping and of course I Googled swatches and reviews, trying to talk myself out of each item but in the end, I lost. But let’s be real, I also won. The only real justifications for a couple of these things is that a) my gel liner really is drying out & is becoming ancient and b) I was picking up a couple items for a tutorial. The rest were impulse buys because hey, who doesn’t want glowy skin and cheeks?! I need all the help I can get this winter! I’m hoping to have the tutorial up by the end of the week, can anyone guess which celebrity look I’ll be doing?

Revlon Photoready Makeup – 003 Shell

This foundation promises a glowy finish that is supposed to look flawless on camera. When compared to the Colorstay people say the Photoready is a bit dewier while the Colorstay is more matte. In the winter months I think a dewy finish will make my dry skin look and feel a lot happier.

Maybelline Hi-Light Highlighting Blush – Pink Rose

I recently saw one of my favorite YouTubers, Makeup by Alli, Instagram a photo of this product & she said it gives a gorgeous glow to the cheeks. I hope you can sense the theme I had going with my skin purchases! I trust her opinion so I had to give one of these things a shot. The pattern intrigues me and you can never go wrong with rose shades.

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner – Blackest Black

This product is a staple in my collection & like I said before, the one I had is past it’s prime & is drying up on me so I had to grab a new pot.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick – Black Cherry

This is a shade that is a bit of a holy grail dark lip for tons of people in the beauty community & today it just felt right for me to pick it up. It is a gorgeous deep reddish plum color. See the swatch below!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick – Bordeaux

I purchased this shade with a particular tutorial in mind. It is very similar to Black Cherry. The true test will be in how well each lipstick lasts on the lips and how even the color applies. See the swatch below!

Maybelline “The Elixir” – 050 Caviar Couture

As you can see, I have a theme going with the lips as well. I have been wanting to get my paws on these new Elixirs & based on a quick swatch, I am really digging how shiny this product is. Can’t wait to put it on my pout!

Mini Haul * Wal Mart

I must admit that I am more of a Target gal but today I went to my local Wal Mart with my sights set on a particular product – the Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer. As far as I know this brand is only sold at Wal Mart so I scooted on over there after work to snag it. While I was there, I obviously had to peruse the aisles for more makeup goodies. Here’s what I picked up!

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer in shade #312 Light $6.00

I recently read that this concealer is comparable to a Makeup Forever concealer which is about three and a half times as expensive as this little guy. I’m not sure if I will be using the pencil that comes with it but I might as well give it a shot.

L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara in Blackest Black $7.97

The wand on this mascara is botjh mildly terrifying but also intriguing. I am curious to see what this mascara does to my lashes – the claim is that it will lengthen, stretch and volumize the lashes to the outer corner. Volume is my number one requirement with mascaras, the rest is just a bonus.

L’Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Serum $19.97

I finally bit the bullet and purchased a serum. My skin is Normal – Dry and this harsh New England Winter is doing a number on my skin. Paying almost $20 for this product took a lot so I am hoping it improves the hydration in my skin and I cannot wait to try it out.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser $5.94

Hallelujah I finally found this product! I have been searching high and low for it since it was released and today was my lucky day. This primer has been compared to Benefit’s Porefessional and claims to blur the look of pores without clogging them. I have some pesky pores around my nose area so we will see if this product lives up to it’s claims.

Trim Scissors & Comb $4.97

Okay, I know that the packaging says these tools are for mustaches and beards but I promise the back says they’re also suitable for eyebrows! My brows have been a real challenge for me but I am starting to face my fears and not only lightly fill them in but also groom them (who teaches their kids this skill?! Certainly not my mother who had plucked her brows into oblivion as a teen). Thanks to YouTube I am able to delve into the mysterious world of brow maintenance.

Comment down below if you’d like to see reviews of any of the products I mentioned above. I will be putting them to work asap and will most likely share my opinions without provocation, but knowing what readers want to see doesn’t hurt! I also hope to have a YouTube channel up shortly with tutorials, hauls & favorites so stay tuned!
